Do you prefer neat and newer models, or just a standard one that just 'does the job'? We recently carried out with a large group of both male and female Canadians a survey asking you what you look for in a cell phone. We've gathered a few of the interesting facts to share with you. Enjoy!

  • Younger panelists (40.8% of those 18-24) are more concerned with the ‘cool’ factor of a cell phone (while older panelists 65+ registered a mere 8.7%). • 34.3% of younger respondents between 18-44 feel that a cell phone has to be stylish, compared to only 12.4% of those 45+. Also, single people (29.8%) believe that a cell phone must be stylish compared to married/partnered people (19.0%).

  • Since single youth are concerned with appearances, this suggests they consider their cell phones as a sort of status symbol. In fact, 11.5% of those aged 18-34 claim to use their cell phones as a means to gain the attention of the opposite sex; this versus only 1.2% of those aged 35+.

  • Similarly, 9.5% of those 18-34 year olds claim to “show off their phone every chance they get” compared to 1.8% of those 35+. Single people are almost twice as likely to show off their phones, compared to married/partnered people (6.0% vs. 2.9%).

  • Moreover, young single respondents (12.3%) are more likely to positively or negatively judge another person based on their cell phone, compared to older (3.4%) panelists.
